Dr. Pedersen has also done extensive independent and collaborative research with genetic aspects of the domestic cats. Genetic aspects of his feline research are concerned with origins of domestic cats, with emphasis on indigenous cat populations, and genetic diversity within modern breeds, and certain genetic traits such as blood type.
