Introduction

Scrapie is an infectious and fatal disease in sheep. It is one of several diseases classified as Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE) and is the most common. The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory has been approved by USDA/APHIS to perform sheep genotyping for the prion protein gene at codons 136, 154 and 171.
